Summary:This article provides a joint perspective on the academic analyses and analysts of Americanist interests in France. Their focus sheds light on the structure of American studies in France. The crisscrossing of insight and blindness implied by the position of these analysts is recycled into a series of hypotheses that account for the genesis and transformations of Americanist curiosity and interest in France’s Anglophone studies departments, leading to the greater weight of American studies (literature and civilisation) in the 1970s.
