Sumario:On the Use of Colon in Old Utalitarian Literature (Using the Example of Olbrycht Strumieński and Stanisław Strojnowski’s Treatises on Ponds) The aim of this paper is to present a description of the appearance of the colon with respect to its lexical and syntactic surroundings. Following the example of the authors of prescriptive works on punctuation, attention has been paid to both right- and left-hand context in which the colon is used. Also, examples in which the colon is the only indicator of the relation between segments of the text, have been made note of. The analysis is based on works by Olbrycht Strumieński (1573) and Stanisław Strojnowski (1609, 1636) which represent utalitarian literature, devoted to the problems of pond management.
