Sumario: | This study is an assessment of Turkish language teacher qualification in relation to their suitability to the cooperative learning method. The sample of the study consists of 92 Turkish language teachers working in the Palandöken County of the Erzurum province and the study utilized the scanning model. To obtain the data for the study, a questionnaire including gender, seniority etc. informations and a 5 Point Likert scale for defining teacher qualities, namely the “scale of opinion on the suitability of the candidate teacher qualities to cooperative learning method” (Yeşilyurt, 2010) has been used. For scale reliability evaluation, a pilot study has been conducted on 40 Turkish language teachers working in the Aziziye County of the Erzurum province. The pilot study revealed a reliability coefficient of Cronbach’s alpha=.985, Bartlett’s test=2570,982 (p=0.000) and a validity coefficient KMO=.951. The KMO test result being greater than 50 and the Bartlett’s test coming up with a meaningful result indicated the suitability of the data set for factor analysis. The obtained data has been analysed on the SPSS 19.0 by utilizing percentage, frequency, arithmetic mean, t-test, and Levene’s test. The results of the analysis revealed that the first group of teachers who were in the first 15 years in their profession were more suitable to cooperative learning methods than the teachers of the second group with more than 15 years experience. It was also found that female teachers viewed the cooperative learning approach more positive than male teachers and that the teaching qualities of female teachers were more suitable to the cooperative learning method. |
