Agricultural policies reflect competing political interests and the ability of the agrarian elites close to the throne to influence the decision-making processes. However, beginning in the late 1980’s such traditional orientations have come to be questioned in light of international trade liberalisation and the financial limitations of the country. In this article we propose to review these policies in their historical context and with a view to the articulation of the agricultural interest by the Moroccan Agricultural Union (UMA). This professional organisation has monopolized agricultural representation since its inception in 1958 and hence, the representation of rural interests. In so doing the UMA has for long played the role of farm lobby before the various institutions of the kingdom.
