The sample group of the study consisted of 5-6 year old 78 children (39 female, 39 male), who attended a private kindergarten in the city center of Denizli and 2 independent kindergartens in the districts of Tavas and Serinhisar in the academic year of 2010-2011, and 7 kindergarten teachers. Teacher Rating Scale of School Adjustment for 5-6 Years of Children was used in the study. Data collection process was performed through applying the scales to the same sample group twice with an interval of one year. Kindergarten teachers filled out the “Teacher Rating Scale of School Adjustment for 5-6 Years of Children” for once for each child in each application period. While the first data of the study were collected in May of 2011, the second data were collected in May of 2012, which was exactly one year later. One way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used for relevant samples in the data analysis in order to investigate whether school adjustment levels of children receiving preschool education showed a significant change at ages of 5 and 6 or not. According to the results of the study, the variables based on the school adjustment levels of children receiving preschool education changed at ages of 5 and 6. Among the variables based on school adjustment levels of children receiving preschool education, the level of self-directiveness, school liking level, school avoidance level and cooperative participation level did not remain constant at ages of 5 and 6, and showed both decreases and increases. While self-directiveness level, school liking level, and cooperative participation level of children receiving preschool education showed an increase at age of 6, their school avoidance level showed a decrease at age of 6. Considering the findings in general, it could be asserted that children's periods of receiving preschool education and their variables of age are effective on their school adjustment levels.Hatice ERTEN SARIKAYAHülya GÜLAY OGELMANFırat Universityarticleschool adjustment levelpreschool educationlongitudinal study.Social SciencesHSocial sciences (General)H1-99DEENFRTRJournal of Academic Social Science Studies , Vol 6, Iss 22, Pp 417-434 (2021)
