Sumario:Based on the analysis of an interprofessional group of a departmental union of the CGT, this article examines the conditions for asserting trade unionism as an actor in the debates and struggles around metropolisation. The constitution of the territory as an object of trade union action is in fact not at all obvious, as this process questions the pyramidal and sectoral logics that make up the structure of French trade unionism. After presenting the divisions accompanying the dynamics of territorial specialization, I underline what the development of trade union expertise on the subject owes to the personal resources of local activists, linked to their biographical trajectories or their positions in the CGT networks. Discouraged by the forms of participation promoted in public action institutions and industrial relations, the development of trade union activities geared towards the management of territorial affairs thus remains the product of specific and poorly reproducible configurations.
