Sumario: | The purpose of this research is to determine the opinions of candidates for psychological counseling on psychological counseling with LGBT individuals. Research data was collected from 20 (15 female, 5 male) students who study in Psychological Counseling and Guidance Programme 4th grade through semi-structured interview questions. In interviews, some questions asked to psychological counselor candidates such as what information they have about LGBT individuals and from what sources they acquire them, what problems LGBT individuals can apply for psychological counseling, what are the feelings of psychological counselor candidates for psychological counseling with LGBT individuals, what features they think will make the process easier and harder for them, and what qualifications they need to acquire. The obtained data were analyzed by content analysis method. Sub-themes and concepts for each main theme have been identified. When the findings are examined, it was seen that the psychological counselor candidates were willing to work with LGBT individuals, but they were worried about harming themselves unwittingly; at the sam time they have feelings such as wonder, excitement for he process; the information they had about LGBT individuals was limited; they perceived themselves as inexperienced in consulting with LGBT individuals. The findings were discussed in terms of multicultural counseling and multicultural psychological counseling competencies and the findings obtained in the candidates were compared. In the term of findings suggestions were presented fort he Psychological Counseling and Guidance licence programme. |
