Sumario: | In the first half of the XIX century, the city of Puebla, located in the central high plateau of Mexico suffered, on the occasion of the civil wars, the deterioration of great part of the center. The city also lived a serious economic depression which affected all the social sectors, especially the poor and the unprotected mass. The conditions of public health were deplorable, and became more complex due to the serious financial problems of the municipality. In this context, in 1833 arrive, from the United States of America, the cholera morbus, generating a crisis of high mortality that sent to the grave more than 3000 citizens. In front of the crisis –for the first time- it was elaborated a sanitary preventive politic consisting on the opening of hospitals, the establishment of sanitary cards and the aperture of San Javier's cemetery in the outside of the city. |
