The city also lived a serious economic depression which affected all the social sectors, especially the poor and the unprotected mass. The conditions of public health were deplorable, and became more complex due to the serious financial problems of the municipality. In this context, in 1833 arrive, from the United States of America, the cholera morbus, generating a crisis of high mortality that sent to the grave more than 3000 citizens.
