Considering the importance of these approaches in the analysis of public policies, this study aims to explore the concepts and authors, proposing a reinterpretation in the context of public policies. The paper considers a fruitful approximation of the approaches of new institutionalism of rational choice and the New Institutional Economics (NIE). Still, common elements in the old institutional economics discussion with the sociological neo-institutionalism, and the historical neo-institutionalism.
