Sumario: | Quality in Translation of Law Texts
The term “quality” presents a wide field of interpretation with fairly fluid boundaries, usually in terms of good or bad quality, depending on whether or not the item possesses the attributes that allow us to meet our expectations and needs, or not. Quality becomes equivalent to a sense of satisfaction or lack of it and results from the subjective perceptions of individuals. It remains recognizable but elusive and objectively difficult to define. Conversely, the quality of translations is determined by numerous technical norms (standards), whose development has become one of the main topics of translational research. Acceptable quality of translation is usually determined by the criteria related to the degree of accuracy of the translation, the compatibility between the versions (precision) and the overall comprehensibility of the text (style). Unfortunately, as indicated by practice, subjectivism still has a significant impact on the quality of translation. Quality seems to be determined by a sense of satisfaction or lack of it.
