The accelerated growth of the number of Higher Education Institutions (HEI) took for a larger concern with the formalization of the strategic administration in those IES. In that context the objective of that study is to identify how it happens the process of strategic administration inside the IES from Ceará. At present, the private Institutions of Higher education called (IES) act more than 88% of Brazilian colleges. Was held un a research of qualitative nature that used the interview as collection instrument. The subjects were the managers of five located universities in the municipal district of Fortaleza (CE). The obtained results demonstrate that one of the main motivations for the adoption of the process was the increase of the competitiveness, besides detaching the technology as allied in practically all of the phases and the resistance culture to the change as one of the barriers for the success of the process.
