Sumario:In 1737, a black ex-military created a brotherhood in Recife, which brought together young free blacks and slaves. Unorthodox behavior sparked rumors of the group, raising the reaction of the Bishop of Pernambuco. Hejería suspects, two soldiers were sent to prison of the Inquisition in Lisbon. With this process, the article examines complaints against the brotherhood (fradaria) and conflicts between secular priests and black soldiers. Try especially to identify the obstacles placed upward mobility of black freedmen and free.
