Sumario:The cooperation University-Business segment is presented as an institutional arrangement that brings the actions of government, university and the business sector in the innovation process. In this context, the objective of this article is to analyze the process of cooperation University-business Segment at the Federal University of Santa Catarina. The study is characterized as a case study, descriptive, bibliographic and documentary with a predominantly qualitative approach. The Data collection occurred with the Centre Directors, Directors of the Department of Innovation pro-rectory of Research and Extension. The data analysis followed the precepts of discourse analysis. The results show that University-Business segment is welcome at UFSC. However, the process is so weak and fragmented and not institutionalized. The relationship between the agents occurs, basically, individually (researcher/business sector). There is no specific legislation to guide the process, which is supported on Federal Laws and correlated Institutional Resolutions. The main difficulties encountered in the process refer to different views about the University-Business segment, the lack of clear legislation to guide the process, failure to institutionalize the process, the inexistence of a culture focused on innovation and dichotomous views between agents. To overcome these difficulties, UFSC has mechanisms to facilitate: Department of Technologic Innovation; University Foundations; Department of Research Projects; business incubator and Celta Sapiens Park. In conclusion, it’s possible to say that University-Business segment is important and necessary for the generation of innovations, because the University creates and disseminates business segment knowledge incorporated in innovations.
