Second, historians have recently shown Americanization as the process by which European Creoles have claimed their Americanness, their independence from Europe, foreshadowing the decolonization of the early 19th century. Focusing on the weight of Britain beyond the American Revolution, historians have recently attempted to evaluate this deconstruction of an Anglo-American world by analyzing the culture of distance.
