This paper concentrates on its precise use and specific iconographical attributes (the drumsticks). The mask, named katotoshi, is related to the mukanda ceremonies among the Luba Bena-Mitumba. This feature calls for investigating the presence of other masks, with similar name, use or attributes among other mukanda people that are neighbors of the Bena-Mitumba. Various sources confirm that masks similar to the Bena-Mitumba katotoshi do exist, though with some differences, among the Luba-Samba, the Lwena, the Lunda, the Mbunda, the Luchazi or even the Tshokwe.
