Sumario: | In the Lebanese historical cities of Byblos, Sidon and Tyre, references to the past proliferate in both speech of the stakeholders and in their actions in urban space. However, historical references in public policies diverge in these cities according to successive political focuses. Yet, conflicts between the legal or informal reconstruction process of the city and the preservation of urban heritage has been a major limit of town planning practice in each of these major Historic PlacesToday, urban planners are driven simultaneously by the term heritage and sustainability injunctions in accordance with the requirements of international donors. The long-term project Cultural Heritage and Urban Development sheds a new light on the encounter between these two temporalities: conservation requirements and aspirations for urban development. |
