Sumario:This study has for subject the development corridors in its urban aspect. The objective was to bring a definition of urban development corridors combining theoretical treatment along with demonstrating the practical applicability of their local dynamics from the definition of a set of preconditions. The study was descriptive with case studies. The definition reached was that the development corridor is an area that connects two poles, and it may have its high level of development due to its location. The development corridor happens to be so from the moment when there are certain development goals for this track linking points. A set of principles and pre-conditions can be used in order to analyze corridors, considering: transportation, land use, economy, social, locational, environmental, infrastructure, participation, institutional, and politics. It is not possible to adopt a single general model of developing strategy for development corridors for all regions since each one has peculiarities that make it different from the others.
