Our goal is to propose a model to better understand those proclaiming Altermondialism as well as their demands and campaign strategies. In doing so, we seek to contribute to the study of social movements in Turkey as well as to the understanding of the Altermondialist Movement in its global dimension. The seamless functioning and novelty of the Altermondialist movement has pushed the limits of Turkish militancy both operationally and ideologically. The national dimension and basis for any Turkish social movement is confronted by the overwhelming influence of the transnational. Even so, the local context remains the basis for social movements. Whether in France or in Turkey, interaction between the local and the transnational is necessary for the continued effectiveness of the Altermondialist movement. Without such interaction, the movement risks failure as the information and activities are limited to a narrow circle of qualified activists and intellectuals.Gülçin Erdi LelandaisUniversité de ProvencearticleHistory of AfricaDT1-3415Social sciences (General)H1-99ENFRRevue des Mondes Musulmans et de la Méditerranée, Vol 123, Pp 227-252 (2008)
