Sumario: | This article exposes the importance of historical knowledge in the political analysis of institutions. In this case, I study the Chilean agrarian reform, during which the hierarchy of the Catholic Church was involved in an autonomous process of land distribution. This paper is divided into three parts; in the first part important elements of the international context are taken into consideration for analysis. The second exposes the precedents of the agrarian reform in Chile and also revises the process of the hierarchy of the Catholic Church, in regards to its own agrarian reform. Finally, in the last part I present the theoretical assumptions, explaining the concept of institutional trajectory.
