Sumario:Abbas Kiarostami being one of the important men of Iranian cinema, used his camera as a mirror that reflects minimal lives. The living environment and the images of nature being the document attribute accompany to ordinary stories in the daily life. The greatest inspiration for these images is Persian poetry which profoundly influenced Iranian cinema. In the film Shirin (2008) of Kiarostami that has left a trace by its different mode of expression in the poetic cinema of Iran, the word has replaced instead of the thing shown and descriptions that are made with only the sounds, in fact are responsible for a function describing "not shown". It is also remarkable by this aspect that cinema can be done without relying on visual elements which tell the story, and that it can emphasize on describe not shown. The signs of the thing not shown in Shirin which carries the minimalism limits to an extreme point in the cinema in fact existed as a method accompanying almost all filmographies of Kiarostami. In this study, it is evaluated the contribution of the element not shown to expressive the language of the Director’s contribution by the scene criticism method, in the process until Shirin being an example of the summit of minimalist and poetic cinema.
