Sumario:This study deals with student assistance in professional education, developed from the PNAES. Its implementation in the Federal Institutes is examined through the norms approved to implement the PNAES. The perspective of implementation is adopted as a decision-making phase based on the indica- tions of Draibe (2011). For this, the quantitative and qualitative approaches are used, through bibliographical and documentary. What has been verified is that the discretion conferred to the Institutes by the PNAES makes that the stu- dent assistance presents several configurations, these, for the most part, define the strategies of implementation of the PNAES by means of new regulations on student assistance. It is concluded that the implementation is not a simple execution phase, on the contrary, it generates decisions and processes, even modifies policies.
