Sumario:This paper analyses the link of María de Zayas’s El castigo de la miseria (Novelas amorosas y ejemplares, 1637) to the Picaresque, to which it has been linked since the edition by González de Amezúa (1948). After looking into the typical features of the genre established by Lazarillo de Tormes, I will examine its influence over don Marcos and doña Isidora, the main characters of the Madrilenian author’s third tale.
