Sumario:The steppe ecosystems, in Algeria, are marked by important landscape diversity in relation with a great variability of ecological factors.  Areas with pastoral tradition, their population are made up primarily of pastor-stockbreeders, formerly nomads for the majority, with an important sedentarily tendency nowadays. Irrational management of rangelands, introduction of development techniques inadequate to these regions, the lack of consultation between different actors of development are as much factors that contributed to lands and natural resources degradation, and to the rupture of environmental equilibrium. This study will have as objectives, after an observation phase of condition of sites and monitoring of ecological modification of these regions, to apprehend the different pressures applied on ecosystems, to evaluate the environmental and social impacts of the desertification and to analyse the different programs to combat desertification that have been done for more than 40 years on steppe regions.
