Sumario:This papers deals with the link between the conflict of Fray Bento’s pulp mills and the massive process of eucalyptus and pinus plantations in the Río de la Plata region. The strategies of those who denounce these fabrics consists in establishing a continuity between the conflict and the silvicultural expansion. For silvicultors and pulp mill societies, the conflict is mainly an opportunity to refocus and adjust strategies and arguments to legitimate ecologically and socially their own activity. This event highlights the limited capacities of the regional states to manage the social and economical efects of a silvicultural expansive process they largely contributed to develop during the 1980s.
