Sumario:As the first French legal work dedicated specifically to the legal personality of animals, this book lays the foundations for a non-human natural personhood. New horizons for animal law open with La personnalité juridique de l’animal, the legal personality of animals. Despite the fact that animals are legally qualified as “living beings endowed with sensibility”, they are still categorized as property. Considering this paradox, the authors suggest rebuilding the category of legal persons. In that respect, the objective of this collection of contributions is, as a first step, to lay a legal groundwork upon which, as a second step, a new category of persons can be built. French law currently differentiates natural persons and legal persons. This work proposes to include animals with the natural persons, and to distinguish human persons and non-human persons. The first volume deals with those who are the closest to humans: pet animals. Other animals will be the subjects of the following sessions.
