Sumario:The first years of the Trump presidency have exhibited provocative interactions with global issues, particularly that of climate change. The globality of climate change has necessitated international cooperation. On the other hand, Trump’s politics and rhetoric have indicated an inward nationalist turn. This article examines how different streams of nationalism interact with global issues in the United States. Nationalism diverges in many ways, but it is elements of hyper-nationalism, it will be argued, that have the greatest influence on the climate politics of Trump presidency, and partisan party-allegiances in the bipartisan political system of the United States are what ultimately perpetuates public attitudes on climate change itself.
