The theoretical bases used were concepts of traffic, accidents and their relationship of public safety, accident impacts and public policies to reduce accidents in Brazil and in the world. A factorial analysis was performed on 46 variables extracted from the data of 2,554 accidents provided by the Federal Highway Police. As result, ten factors were defined that explain about 71.15% of the total variance of the occurrences.
