His father was Abdurrahman Sami Pasha, the First Minister of Education. Having been promoted up to Undersecreteriat in Egypt, Suphi Pasha returned to İstanbul after death of Kavalalı Mehmet Ali Pasha. He served as Minister of Foundations, Education, Trade and Finance. Speaking Arabic, Persia, French and Greek, Suphi Pasha had an intellectual personality. Having a grasp of Eastern literature and Western Science, Suphi Pasha was a virtuous man and also a poet. He was a member of Budapest, Bavarian and Saxony Academia of Science, American Eastern Education Council and German Eastern Association. He had a rich and valuable library. His old coin collection, a product of years, was highly significant and well-known. Abdüllatif Subhi Pasha was the first person to engage in numismatics in accordance with scientific methods in Ottoman Empire. It was all his works that the first Ancient Monuments Regulations was issued in Ottoman Empire on April 8th 1874 and foundation of Fine Arts School and Istanbul Archeology Museum (Imperial Museum). He attached importance to old works of art coming from Arabia due to his interest in antique works. The article written by Abdüllatif Suphi Pasha in Historical Ottoman Council’s Journal regarding mühr-I şerife, which is also known as prophet seal and dignified seal claimed to be belonging to the Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him), is the subject of this study. In his article, Abdüllatif Suphi Pasha included certain samples of rumors in hadith books in order to prove that the seal in his possession belongs to Messenger of Allah. Afterwards, he presented certain evident of intellectual persuasion on this subject. He also indicated the necessity of investigation of the evident he asserted by competent people of their area.
