Sumario: | History can not be a dream, so it is important to write events in the most appropriate way while writing history. To evaluate a historical event within its own terms and to write it by taking into account the sources that bear witness are the most valuable qualities of a true historian. Just as Mustafa Kemal Atatuk said: “To write history is as important as to make history. It is an unchanging truth that if the writer does not remain true to the maker, then it takes on a quality that will confuse humanity.” In this way, it is the firts phase of a study to know the historians who wrote the Turkish history and to have knowledge about their works. Accordingly, in this study, we will write out the life and works of Turkish Naval Historian Saffet Bey. Saffet Bey was born in 1870 and died in 1913 when he was 43 years old. Despite the fact that his death occured at a very young age, it is admirable that the works which he has done and his productivity. He has achieved great success in his his fleeting life, had state insignias, wrote several boks and over thirty articles. Although he is such a productive historian, the writings about him do not pass a few lines. With the study, we want to point out that Saffet Bey is an important naval historian and he has done significant studies. |
