Sumario: The Mexican movies, during the first half of the last century, collaborated unquestionably in the construction of the national identity; in order to do that, the stories that it took to the screen, used some symbolical repertoires such as: the country life, the popular rites and customs, the collective beliefs and values, the historical passages and the native country heroes; as places of the Mexican society amusement. In this work, it is thought about what has happened with these topics in the contemporary Mexican cinematography. Are they still standing? If they are, how are they represented? How have they been changed in a globalized world, where the idea of "the one's own" has been changed? What does the Mexican film reveal about the Mexican national identity in these days? These are some of the questions that guide the present reflection.
