| Sumario: | Abdülhamid the Second stated his will to found a children’s hospital with these words: “My child wasn’t able to survive. Who knows how the children of the poor are taken care of. Let’s have a hospital built and save many fathers like me from the grief of loosing a child.” The hospital began to be built upon Sultan’s will and was completed in 1899. It took its role in history as the first children’s hospital of the Ottoman Period. Hamidiye Etfal Hospital (Şişli Etfal Hospital) got improved in a short time with the contributions of the Sultan. The hospital had modern conditions of the age and became a model. It came to be known both in Europe and in the prominent countries of the world. In this study; an overview was made on Hamidiye Etfal Hospital based on the Hamidiye Etfal Hospital Medical Statistics Journal dated as 19th August 1321 (31st August 1905). The medical state of the Ottomans and medical services of Abdülhamid the Second were briefly explained in the introduction part of the study. The content of the reference we benefited from in the study (‘Hamidiye Etfal Hospital Medical Statistics Journal dated as 19th August 1321 (31st August 1905)) was briefly explained in the first part. In the second part, some information was given on Hamidiye Etfal Hospital based on the statistics journal and revision studies. The establishment, polyclinics, architecture of some polyclinics and hospital operations were tried to be explained. Hamidiye Etfal Hospital, which gave a modern service at its age using the latest technology devices and equipments and its staff forms the content of the study. |
