The main differentiation begins during the Old Turkey Turkish period and became definite after fifteenth century called Ottoman period. In seventeenth century this differentiation was unclear, due to lack of texts on Arabic letters conveying the sounds of Turkish. The morphology of Ottoman and Azeri Turkish resembles to each other but some differences are remarkable. One of them is verb inflection. On this matter there are different uses of verb suffixes out of the Ottoman Turkish. When conjugations observed it is seen that there is no difference in each tense but there are some time suffixes differ from Turkey Turkish. Past continuous tense suffix is the same as Turkey-Turkish. The only difference is that it also has the use of vowels “o, u, ü, ö”. The past perfect tense is expressed both with suffixes “mış and up”. “up” suffix is a different usage. When this suffix used, pronouns used in conjugations. But there is no use of this suffix with “I and we”. This time suffix is just used with “you, he, she, and it” in this work. The suffixes “-r, -ır and –ur” are used for simple present tense in Turkey Turkish and the suffix “–ar” serves the same purpose. This is a serious difference is observed in the text. For the future tense the suffixes “-ecek and –acak”, which are the same in Turkey Turkish, and different suffixes “-esi and –ası” are used. It is seen that suffixes “-esi and –ası”, which are different from Turkey Turkish, are used with “he, she, it”. For present continuous tense suffixes “–(y)Ir, -(y)Ur, -makte, -mekte” are used. Optative, conditional mood and qualification mode are the same as Turkey Turkish. In necessitative sentences “gerek and gerekdür” words are used as a distinct from Turkey Turkish. In this study, verb inflection in seventeenth Century Azerbaijani Turkic examined on Hikayat as a sample, and compared with characteristics of the period. Thus, by the help of this work written in Azerbaijani, the differences in verb inflection between Azeri Turkic and Turkey Turkish put forward. This study will especially contribute the researches on seventeenth century Azeri Turkish.Meltem GÜLFırat Universityarticlea study on azerbaijani features of verb inflection in hikayatazerbaijani verb inflection seventeetSocial SciencesHSocial sciences (General)H1-99DEENFRTRJournal of Academic Social Science Studies , Vol 6, Iss 16, Pp 751-758 (2019)
