The cluster is located in the state of Rio de Janeiro, more precisely in the region of Agulhas Negras, an important pole of the Brazilian automobile industry. Since the 1990s, the region's municipalities have been concentrating important investments in the automobile industry from five automakers (MAN Latin America, PSA Peugeot Citroën, Renault-Nissan, Hyundai and Jaguar Land Rover) and from domestic and foreign suppliers, which generate around of 30 thousand jobs at regional level. The paper analyzes the process of construction of the cluster and the main results of this initiative from a qualitative approach, with interviews of members of the automakers. As a result, it is observed that, in the short term, the cluster intends to ensure competitive conditions for companies by focusing on strategic issues such as education, energy, transportation and housing.
