Sumario: | Aim. To find effective solution for the treatment of osteoarthrosis of the knee with valgus deformity in advanced stages.
Material and Methods. In our study 67 patients with degenerative osteoarthrosis of the knee with valgus deformity were treated surgically, using total knee replacement. Fifteen patients had localized rheumatoid arthritis at the knee; 52 patients had primary osteoarthrosis of the knee; bilateral knee replacement was performed in 7 cases. The results of the treatment have been evaluated by the International Knee Score System.
Results and Discussion. The results of the treatment have been evaluated using the International Knee Score System with average score of 32 points preoperatively and 84 points postoperatively during 2-4 years.
Conclusions. Total knee arthroplasty is an argued and effective solution in the treatment of osteoarthrosis of the knee with valgus deformity in advanced stages. Careful selection of patients, proper preoperative planning, and adherence to the surgical techniques according to the algorithm allows us to achieve good functional outcomes in the majority of cases. Total knee arthroplasty allows correction of deformity, alleviation of pain, improvement of joint mobility, relatively rapid resumption of function in the postoperative period, and considerably improves the quality of life in these patients. In patients with valgus deformities with an angle over 20°, the use of suprastabilized revision prostheses is recommended. |
