Sumario: | The main objective of the social studies course is to train good citizens. The methods and techniques used in social studies course are important. It is known that drama method is a convenient and effective method, in addition to several other methods that can be used in social studies course. Drama applies unique techniques as a method and these techniques are frequently included in the social studies course (creative drama, improvisation, pantomime, etc.). The present research was conducted with the intent to determine the teacher opinions regarding the use of drama method in Social Studies course. Phenomenology desing, a qualitative research method, was used in the research. The purposive sampling method was used in determining the study group. The study was conducted with 20 social studies teachers working in middle schools in Elazığ center, during the 2017-2018 academic year. In the study, data were obtained using semi-structured interview technique. The results obtained from the research were analyzed using content analysis method. The research data were evaluated using the N-VIVO 12 qualitative data analysis software. As a outcome of the research indicated, social studies participating in the research emphasized that the majority of the teachers had positive aspects such as learning by doing/living, creative thinking, permanent learning and cooperation by doing drama method while several teachers stated negative opinion by saying that drama method was not appropriate for teaching particular subjects. It can be suggested that it would be beneficial for teachers to use this modern teaching method. |
