Summary: | Relying upon the outcomes of two empirical studies, the aim of this paper is to discuss the ambivalent character of the relationship from individuals to the effects of neoliberalism as economic and social model in the case of Chile. On the one hand, it will be discussed a set of criticisms embodied in six subject ideals impelled by this model based upon which individuals take moral distance from the model. On the other hand, it will be underscored and analyzed a set of reasons for the attachment to the transformations these processes have brought. It is suggested that these contradictory strands define Chilean society today. This coexistence allows understanding that a compact defense of the model appears as inacceptable for most of the population but that, simultaneously, deep transformations might also be resisted. |
