Henrique founded the Vila de Baixo in the floodplain, establishing a connection with the river along a main axis that led towards the old bridge. Later the town stretched itself beyond the Nabão. This river always provided hydraulic energy through norias and dams as several factories were also constructed along its stream during the industrialization era.
