In 1913, he created the International Division of Health (DIS) whose mission was to combat hookworm and yellow fever. In 1941, the DIS created a new regional dependency for the Río de la Plata and the Andean Region that covered the area comprised by Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Uruguay and Paraguay. Nursing training in Chile and Argentina had a prominent place among the activities that were stimulated. According to the perspective of the RF, the training of nurses should aim to increase their professional practices to break the practices based on empiricism and charity. In this article we will review the ideas of the RF regarding nursing, the strategies implemented to promote it and the results obtained in both countries. The sources we will use are the personal Diary of Lewis Wendell Hackett, renowned mariologist, who was in charge of this department and the biannual and annual reports of the DIS from 1940 to 1951, at which time the regional unit interrupted its functions.Karina Inés RamacciottiCentre de Recherches sur les Mondes AméricainsarticlenursingRockefeller FoundationInternational Health DivisionArgentinaChileAnthropologyGN1-890Latin America.
