Sumario:The aim of the study is to determine the opinions of candidate social studies teachers as to history teaching. Phenomenology, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the process of data collection and interpretation. The study group of the study consisted of 4th grade teacher candidates from the Social Sciences Teaching Department of the Faculty of Education at Abant İzzet Baysal University in the 2018-2019 academic year. A total of 33 candidate teachers, 19 of whom were female and 14 of whom were male, participated in the study. Datas were collected through a semi-structured interview form. Descriptive analysis technique was used to analyze the data obtained through interviews. Reason-result relationships were obtained by describing the obtained datas logically and then interpreting it with quotations. After describing the views of candidate social studies teachers as to history teaching, evaluations were made in the light of these datas. As a result of the findings, candidate social studies teachers stated that history education is very important in terms of citizenship awareness and that not teaching History lesson with different methods and techniques is a big problem in history teaching.The fact that the history lesson is based on narration is seen as a customary situation. They stated that the use of different methods and techniques is an important solution for these problems in the history lessons and that educational materials, educational games and field trips should be preferred for the attractiveness of the lessons. If these problems are resolved, the course of history will also change.
