Sumario:Products of domestic agriculture are currently highly demanded by local consumers, however, they are often more expensive. Therefore, there is a need for effective methods to detect incorrect labelling of geographical origin. The published study is focused on apples representing the most important fruit commodity in the Czech Republic. The non-target analysis using liquid chromatography coupled with high-resolution tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-HRMS/MS) was used to study phenolic compounds in the set of 51 apple samples grown in the Czech Republic, Poland, Chile and Italy, and the potential of this approach to authenticate geographical origin was evaluated. 31 phenolic compounds were detected and statistical models were created using principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA). Among apples with different geographical origin, no statistically significant differences were found, the other hand, the relationship between individual cultivars and the profiles of phenolic compounds was observed. Further knowledge on the content of these healthy compounds can be used in the selection of cultivars with high biological value, both for direct consumption and for the production of food supplements.
