Among those languages there were Balkan languages too. The arrival of Turks to the Balkans became in ancient time. The first Turkic invasions to the Balkans were the invasions of the Huns. Then, the arrivals of Bulgars, Avars, Pechenegs, Kuman-Kipcaks followed after. At last, Ottomans came and ruled over this region for the long time. During the Ottoman rule in the Balkans the culture of the Balkan peoples came under the influence of the Turkish culture. This influence is most seen in the lenguage. The settlements of Turks in this region during the Ottoman period, the acceptance of Islam and its culture and traditions brought many new words from Turkish language to the Balkan languages. Turks had also brought new crafts to the region and that meant also new words and influence of the languages. The studens who were going to Istnabul for the education and who learned Turkish language, when they came back to their countries continued to use many Turkish words even when they were speaking their mother tongues and in this way they were spreading these Turkish words. This was one of several reasons why today we have so many Turkish words in Balkan languages. Especially during the Ottoman rule many words from Turkish language had passed to Balkan languages. Those words had affected the relations among Balkan languages as well. Many works about the elements of Turkish language in Balkan languages has been written and published. Among these published works, in terms of material and in terms of both detection and calassification of borrowed words the dictinary of Abdulah Skaljic has a special historical value. This dictionary has been guide for many later works on this topic.
