Sumario: | Coworking spaces only host a very small part of the active population, yet they are part of a process of profound transformations relating to working, workplace practices and their environments. They attract growing interest from political and academic circles, particularly in terms of their potential for economic development. Our research shows that their contributions are mainly observed on another level: that of urban planning and local development. Looking at the case studies of Montreal (Quebec) and Tours (France), it appears that some of the spaces have transformative effects on the local level, provided that they combine different fields of action in urban planning based on regulations, collaboration between stakeholders in the urban project, and support for initiatives led by the community and entrepreneurial sectors that are specific to tactical urbanism. |
