After a violent death, justice launched an investigation in order to prove a suicide and discard a homicide. The research examines 124 suicide files. In this context, it identifies 11 sorts of explanations offered by relatives and by suicidal person in their testimonies or farewell notes. Suicide was usually explained through one reason. Otherwise, in Julio Alfaro’s case, five types of explanations were presented to justify the suicidal purpose. In this sense, Julio Alfaro’s case is set out as an exceptional case because of the varied explanations involved.Daniela Belmar Mac-VicarCentre de Recherches sur les Mondes AméricainsarticleSuicideSantiago1930micro-historycrisisAnthropologyGN1-890Latin America.
