Description
Summary:This article discusses the debate between water and wine in the second part of the poem Razón de amor. In the light of patristic sources and philosophical discussions on questions of mereology, the article inquires into the extent to which the author used such sources to contextualise the debate and to invert its import. For instance, the opening assertion on the need to separate water and wine is followed by an exaltation of baptism, not only as an initiatic sacrament, but also as the practice of watering down wine.
