Sumario:The extraordinary combination of crises besetting the United States in the year 2020 – the Covid-19 pandemic, the economic recession and mass protests – presents a unique vantage point for analysing transitions in the country’s employment relationship since the turn of the 21st century. The article begins with a brief review of changes in the peculiar institutional context circumscribing American labour and employment relations being moving on to discuss three dimensions thereof, namely labour markets, the labour process and social reproduction. It concludes with a look at the impacts these recent trends might have on the current situation.
