Sumario:The results from the analysis of the ADVANCE trial and post-intervention program ADVANCE-ON are presented in this article. These studies are dedicated to study the effect of intensive glycemic control on the incidence of micro- and macrovascular events in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and evaluation of long-term results of intensive glycemic control. We discuss the progress of views on the impact of glycemic control on the development of cardiovascular complications. According to the analysis of the research results, gliclazide MR is safe in patients with type 2 diabetes at high risk for cardiovascular complications.
