As a class side effect, mitochondrial toxicity can express from an asymptomatic hiperlactacidemia up to a lifethreatening lactic acidosis. Other NRTI side effects are lipodystrophy (a complex morphometabolic syndrome), peripheral neuropathy, pancreatitis and hypersensitivity reaction with abacavir.
