Sumario:SUMMARY: Forty adult male rats were divided into two groups of 20 animals each, i.e., control (C) and experimental groups (Ep). Group Ep received sugar cane brandy commercially make, "brand 51 Pirassununga", diluted to 30 G.L. as a liquid diet for a period of 240 days, and tap water for the subsequent 60 days. The animals were sacrificed after 60, 120, 180, 240 and 300 days of treatment. Several morphologic changes were observed in Group Ep animals up to 240 of treatment, i.e., dilatation of the cisterns of the rough endoplasmic reticulum, increased intercellular spaces between the basolateral interdigitations of the cells, swelling of the connective tissue, and presence of a large amount of pinocytic cells, of digestive vacuoles and of vesicles with electronlucent content throughout the cytoplasm. After 300 days of treatment Group Ep animals presented a significant regression of the above changes. No changes were observed in Group C animals.
