SOLVENT-FREE C-ALKYLATION OF BARBITURIC ACID IN THE NANOCRYSTALLINE MORDENITE MEDIA

Sumario: | A simple, efficient and clean procedure has been developed for the C-alkylation of barbituric acid. The Michael addition of barbituric acid to α,β-unsaturated esters by employing K2CO3 in the nano-mordenite media (K2CO3/nano-MOR), as catalyst, gave C-alkylated barbituric acid in good to excellent yield. Nano-MOR showed good reusability. K2CO3/nano-MOR catalyst has been found to be an excellent catalyst for the reaction under solvent-free conditions at 80-90 °C. |
